Do I qualify as an arts student, Darren? Lol. :D

Anyway, I was supposed to be doing a write up on the "emo-culture" we see in our society this day! To think I have been susceptible and perhaps lost in it for a moment. I would strongly think that a mature Christian would not allow his emotions to rule his thoughts, words and actions- his life. He ought to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. He isn't one who lacks emotions and feelings towards others, just one who knows how to control them well, and channel them into doing work for the glory of God.

What do we live for in our lives?

I am certain there are many parts and areas of our lives that make up our daily living, for example for me it would be studies, church, ministry, relationships and in the past probably running. But what governs it all? For some like my coach, running governs it all. His priority is running, and he lives to run. For others like my friends, studies take priority and whatever he does, he thinks quite often about studying. And more often than not, we see romantic love being the governor of lives- we watch movies and listen to songs and read literature on how many people and willing to live, and die for love. These are certainly noble causes but nonetheless, not what I feel a Christian ought to live for in life.

God cannot and should not be just a part of us- God ought to be the very justification of our being and existence. Extreme? Maybe not, if we understood what life is really about. I propose that God be the sole Governor of our lives. If He is the Author of the story of our lives, He writes beautifully every detail and ends it all perfectly with ".. and they lived happily ever after". If He lords it over our life, not a second would be wasted on vain and empty pleasures. If He controls and directs all our resources, we'll end up being wholly satisfied at the end of life's journey.

Now, the three reasons why He, ought to be Ruler of our life. Firstly, He created us. We owe our very existence to Him, for the writer of Acts says "through Him we live and move and have our being" and Job tells us that "naked we come from our mother's womb, naked we shall return". If we didn't create ourselves, who are we to demand but to submit? Secondly, Christ bought us with His blood. 1 Corinthians 6 says, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" Without salvation through the grace of our Lord, all we live for is naught for we will never be able to satisfy the righteousness of God on our own account. Thirdly, God is sovereign over all and we are not. The fact that life is beyond human comprehension and control ought to turn our eyes to Him who does providentially care for us.

It would seem absurd to the world to "throw our lives away" into the hands of Him we do not see. It would be more logical and practical if instead of waiting and trusting, we fight for our own rights and reach for our own dreams. But by the testimony of the Word, we walk by faith and not by sight. We live in total dependence in God and someday we'll echo the words of the Psalmist, "O LORD of Hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in Thee!" (Ps84)
